CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS – “Wanted: Best Network Centric Successes and Lessons”

Abstract Submittal is Now Closed!

general rules

The theme for 2009 NCM Forum is, “Going Network Centric Delivers Results.” This theme recognizes that in today’s competitive global economy, organizations of all sizes are forming extended enterprises via partnerships and alliances to leverage individual capabilities and provide synergy in delivery of goods and services.

System integrators and original equipment manufacturers are forming regional or even global distributed networks to increase reach in product sales, access best value capabilities and to share risks. For such Network Centric enterprises, traditional hierarchical supply chain practices are proving to be inflexible and costly– Delivery dates are missed, quality suffers, profits are lost, and brands are tarnished.

As strategic approaches like Network Centric Manufacturing (NCM) and sustainment are delivering results, these emerging practices and approaches must now achieve full effectiveness and efficiency. All participants in the NCM extended enterprise must be able to collaborate and coordinate throughout design, production and sustainment. New agilities must facilitate rapid and efficient changes when necessary. Everyone involved should have visibility into all processes required to facilitate planning and avoid surprises.

Has your organization figured it out? Have you moved beyond traditional supply chain practices into more dynamic and efficient supplier networks? If so, we want to hear from you. We’re looking for a select few to present their successes and lessons on the practices and approaches that deliver real results.

General Rules
  • Abstracts should include successes and lessons of Network Centric Manufacturing (NCM) and sustainment practices and approaches that are delivering notable results. Topics should capture a case study type perspective by focusing on “what worked and what didn’t work” in actual NCM efforts. Resultant NCM principles, practices and lessons useful to the community are desired.

Abstracts need to address the goods or services being discussed, the challenges faced, the rational for a Network Centric approach and a brief description of the successes and lessons that will be presented. We are seeking abstracts that provide NCM perspectives from different points of view: suppliers, partners, original equipment manufacturers, prime system integrators and customers.

It may also be helpful for your abstract to designate the level at which your findings apply:
    • Enterprise – designing, deploying and governing networks, etc.
    • Organizational – change management, new functional skill sets and roles, etc.
    • Process – methods and tools, practices (contracting, alignment, collaboration, shared information, etc) for tapping full capabilities of a supplier network, etc.
  • Authors should submit abstracts by completing the online abstract submittal form. The abstract text must be a minimum of 200 words or a maximum of 500 words.
  • Submittals must include the following:
    • Title of the presentation
    • Name, title, organization, address, telephone number, fax number and email address of the author(s).
  • Abstracts must be received no later than Friday, August 7, 2009. The forum planning committee request that in order to facilitate review, abstracts be submitted as soon as possible. A late submission will not allow time for proper review by the forum planning committee and may result in the rejection of the abstract. The abstracts submitted will be used in the preliminary selection process. You will be notified by email by Friday, August 28, 2009 on the status of your submittal.

If selected, requirements will include:

  • 50-100 word biography/photo
  • Presentation received by due date
  • Presentation for loading onto session computers
  • Presentations to be within the 20 minute range, leaving room for Q&A at the end of each session (Each presenter must not exceed time allotted)

  • Presentations that are accepted must participate at the date/time scheduled by the forum planning committee
  • Final presentation materials to be submitted in electronic format via the NCM Forum Web site—presentations to be in the Microsoft family of applications, PowerPoint as the preferred method
  • Each presenter must register, according to the registration regulations
  • Authors presenting will be responsible for obtaining all necessary approvals and releases from their organization. This includes permission to present at the conference and have their information disseminated on the website or in any documentation of the forum proceedings
